Afenifere urges Yorubas against participating in protests and rallies
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has advised Yorubas against taking part in the protest or rally organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) set for February 27 and 28. Last week, the labor union announced a two-day strike to voice grievances about the current economic difficulties in Nigeria. Afenifere's leader, Reuben Fasoranti, released a statement on February 25 urging patience from Nigerians, especially towards President Tinubu as he tackles the challenges he inherited upon assuming office in May 2023.
Fasoranti emphasized the importance of refraining from protests or actions that could escalate tensions and acknowledged the ongoing hardships faced by the people. He highlighted the government's efforts under President Tinubu to address the economic issues and stressed that the tough economic measures are part of a broader strategy to restore prosperity and stability. He also called for trust in the government's commitment to citizens' welfare despite the challenging impacts of the economic reforms.impacts of the economic reforms.
